Supported gateways ​

API-dex connects to three gateways:

  • Apigee
  • Gravitee API Management
  • Azure API Management

When an administrator creates an environment, they choose the gateway type and enter that gateway's connection details. The environment switcher shows each environment's name and gateway type, so two environments with similar names stay distinguishable.

What differs per gateway ​

  • Credentials. API-dex issues credentials in the format each gateway expects, so the credential fields on an application differ between an Apigee environment and a Gravitee one. See Reference: applications.
  • Connection method. Apigee environments authenticate with a service account or with Workload Identity Federation. Azure environments use a SAS token or an Azure AD service principal. Gravitee environments can additionally connect to Gravitee Access Management for OAuth clients.

SAP gateways are no longer supported since API-dex 3.0.0.
