Environments
An environment is a configured connection from API-dex to one gateway, for example your test Gravitee instance or your production Apigee organisation. Each environment has a display name, shown in the environment switcher, and a gateway type: Apigee, Gravitee or Azure API Management. See Supported gateways.
Administrators register environments under Admin → Environments. Everyone else selects the environment they work in from the top bar.
Why environment scope matters
The catalog, applications, credentials and analytics are scoped to the selected environment. When an API or application seems to have disappeared, check the selected environment first. It is the most common reason two colleagues see different lists.
Access per environment
Administrators can restrict an environment to accounts that carry a given role from the organisation's identity provider, independent of team and application permissions. A user without that role does not see the environment in the switcher.
